Teams will distill their commercialization plan down into a 2 page executive summary and 5 minute video pitch.

All submission materials are due by 11:59 p.m. MST on March 4, 2013.

The submission materials will be judged by top cleantech innovators, industry leaders investors and entrepreneurs. The top 6 teams will compete in the finals round on April 19, 2013 and present their plans to a panel of judges for a chance to win $100,000 cash to help launch their startup. Other prizes for the top teams include 40 hours of commercialization assistance from NREL, entry into the 2013 NREL Industry Growth Forum, and entry into the Cleantech Open Accelerator Competition.

In addition to the $100,000, the top team will go on to compete in the national competition in Washington D.C. for more monetary and in-kind prizes. The teams will gain national exposure and also get to connect with top investors, industry leaders, and government officials. The runner-up team will also be invited to Washington D.C. but will not be eligible to compete.

The CU Cleantech New Venture Challenge is a regional competition, but students from the University of Colorado that compete in the regional competition will also be eligible to compete in the on-campus business plan competition, the CU New Venture Challenge. The submission materials are the same for both the regional and on-campus competition, so CU-based teams get the opportunity to compete in both competitions.
