How to Apply

The IEC is now accepting applications for all 2008 - 2009 sessions.

Application Instructions

Please apply as early as possible to allow sufficient time for visa processing.

1. Indicate each session for which you are applying. This is necessary so that we can list the correct dates on your I-20 form.

2. Complete the personal information section. You may request to have personal information about yourself withheld from the University Directory. To do this, please call or visit our office.

3. Indicate your housing preference. The IEC housing options are CU dormitories, Bear Creek Apartments or Boulder hotel (privately owned). Note: This is a non-refundable $300 fee and must be included with the application in order to reserve housing space. To cancel a housing reservation, notify the IEC in writing at least four (4) weeks before registration day. To apply for University Family Housing (for married students or single parents), please send an e-mail directly to familyhousing@housing.colorado.edu, or visit their website at http://housing.colorado.edu/fh/index.cfm. If you prefer to live off-campus, the Housing Coordinator can give you information about an apartment-finding service. A one-bedroom unfurnished apartment in Boulder rents for about $800-$1000. Many students share apartments. We do not provide homestays.

4. Complete the Financial Information section so that we can process your I-20 Form. The statement of funds must accompany your application form. You will need to show available funds for EACH session for which you are applying.

5. Payment of the application fee must accompany your application form. If you would like to reserve a dormitory room, a dormitory fee must also be submitted. If your I-20 Form is sent by Express Mail, you will be charged an Express Mail fee.

6. Please note that some expenses are only estimated. The Student Fees for Labs, Student Health Center, and Bus Pass are required for all students. Note: Health insurance is required for all students. On registration day all students must either show proof of insurance or buy health insurance through the IEC.

Application Checklist

Complete all parts of the application and attach the following:

  • Statement or letter verifying the availability of funds (from a bank or supporting agency).
  • Application fee and express mail charges - check drawn on a US bank or money order payable to the "University of Colorado" in US dollars or credit card information. (Please do not send credit card information via e-mial.).
  • Housing reservation fee of $300 U.S.
  • Recent passport-size photo of yourself. No photocopies.
