OTPIC Officially Retired

As of December 2, 2005, the Online Training Program on Intractable Conflict (OTPIC) has been officially retired, and is no longer open to new registrations.

The successor to OTPIC is a course called Dealing Constructively with Intractable Conflicts (DCIC). The new curriculum is built around one of our major projects, Beyond Intractability, and offers a much more extensive and informative set of learning materials than that available through OTPIC.

Citation: Sean Byrne "Northern Ireland: Local Dispute or International Conflict?" Working Paper No. 28, July 1993. PARC News. Fall 1993. pp. 4-5.

This article summary written by: Mariya Yevsyukova, Conflict Research Consortium.

In this paper, the conflict in Northern Ireland is viewed as an international problem, rather than an internal (Ireland) problem. The author argues for the necessity of framing the issues in conflict as not necessarily internal, but determined by the international situation. This can promote more practical involvement of other countries in the conflict, which could be beneficial for its resolution.
