Hitchcock and Freud: If you marveled at Hitchcock’s artistic expertise in The Birds or Psycho, then you’ll love this summer’s course, “Hitchcock and Freud.” Taught by award-winning Humanities professor, Dr. Paul Gordon, this class applies Freud’s psychoanalytic method of interpreting art to Hitchcock’s films. You’ll gain a new understanding of the ever-present “Mother” figure of Hitchcock’s masterpieces.

The Greek and Roman Novel: Indulge yourself by reading, in English, the major epics of Greco-Roman antiquity such as the Iliad, Odyssey, Argonautica, Aeneid, and Metamorphoses. Taught by Prof. Andrew Cain with the Classics department, students will discuss topics such as the nature of classical epic, its relation to the novel, and its legacy. No Greek or Latin required.

FIRST Grant brings Prof. Ben Stevens back to Boulder
Through funding provided by a FIRST grant, the Humanities Department is excited to welcome back to Boulder for the summer session, Prof. Ben Stevens from Bard College. Prof. Stevens will be teaching “Reading Comics.” This never-before offered course combines Prof. Stevens’ love of comics and his scholarly skills of literary criticism. We’re sure this revolutionary course will be a guaranteed hit with our undergraduates who are part of a generation that has grown up with a fully developed sense of comics as a literary art form.
