Evan Thomas and David PlatiThe University of Colorado Boulder Alumni Association honored two journalism alumni at its annual awards ceremony.

David Plati (MJour’82) received the 2015 Robert Stearns Award for his extraordinary service to the university. Plati received his master’s degree in journalism in 1982. Two years later he became CU’s youngest-ever sports information director.

Evan Thomas (Jour’06) received the 2015 Kalpana Chawla Award for outstanding achievement within 15 years of graduation. Thomas was cited for his work in the fields of aerospace engineering and sustainable development. He received a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree I in aerospace in 2006 and followed up with a doctorate in aerospace in 2009. Thomas is an assistant professor at Portland State University, where he directs the university’s Sustainable Water, Energy and Environmental Technologies (SWEET) Laboratory.
