When scanning with OmniPage pro, first teach OmniPage to recognize the 5080c.

Indicate the type of document you wish to process. The scanning and black and
white will be the fastest. Scanning in grayscale is especially good for faded
blotchy or colored texts. The scan in color when you need to preserve color
for images, or for text that you need to keep in color. The fourth option on
this page, is to scan an image file: this is the option you would use if you
had already scanned using Utility 5000, or if you had a PDF in TIFF format.
After making your choice select Next > .
In this step you select the type of document you wish Omni to scan. Most often
you will use Auto. After making your choice select Next > .
In step 3 select the languages that are contained in your document.
In this step, and you are asked to choose whether you wish to proofread the
finished text before exporting the document, and whether you wish to apply IntelliTrain.
Generally, we select yes to both of these options.
In this last step you will select high you wish to export your document whether
you wish to say that as a file on the computer, or copy it to the clipboard.
In this step it also informs you that OmniPage pro will remember the slow settings
you selected and will apply them to the next document as well. If you're satisfied
with all your choices, select finish.
At this point, OmniPage will begin scanning the page or pages, and as it has finished recognizing the page it will bring up the OCR proofreader. This interface is very much like the spell checker in Microsoft Word. Generally, you will be able to see the image that has been scanned, the recognition dialogue box, and the new document that is being generated.

Once you have completed the OCR process, you will be prompted to save your file. Although it varies according to the situation, RTF is an excellent format for preserving the pictures and the text - select RTF for the Files of Type, and for formatting Level, specify True Page, and the Page range of All pages. Try to name files with book title and chapter number.

Although some Alternate Text producers have complained that OmniPage 12 will
crash frequently this is not a situation that we have experienced. Currently
there is a patch on the ScanSoft web page that improves performance. Also, OmniPage
inserts text boxes in the document files it creates, but these can be eliminated
by specifying to not autoinsert text boxes in the Direct OCR options on the
Tools > Options menu.
