Exhibition of Gold Roman Coins Commands Attention

The students of CLAS 7012, Roman Numismatics, have organized a marvelous exhibition in Norlin Special Collections this fall semester. These students, whom Professor Lenski has called "an outstanding group of budding scholars", include Renee Afimiwala-Rodgers, Jared Benton, Jamie Griffiths, Heidi Herringtion, Chad Hutchens, Aaron Johnson, Daniel McReynolds and Bekki Richards. Professor Diane Conlin, who is co-teaching Roman Numismatics, remarks that "this is precisely the sort of course that helps CU earn it reputation as a first-rate research university."

In conjunction with Professors Lenski and Conlin, the students have cataloged and described an extremely beautiful collection of Roman Imperial Denarii, Aurei and Solidi. The Exhibition entitled "All that Glitters: Art and Economy in the Coinage of Rome", offers viewers a chance to learn fascination details about the artistic legacy of the Romans as it is depicted in ancient coins but also about the economic history of their cast and sophisticated empire. The exhibition has been open every Wednesday from 1:30 - 3:30 at Norlin Special Collections.
