CU Classics is home to an energetic new organization, the Association of Students of the Classical World (ASCW). This group is a non-exclusive association of students, both undergraduates and graduates, both majors and non-majors, who are interested in any and all aspects of the Classical World.

The purpose of the ASCW is to provide opportunities for students to engage in academic dialogue, professional activities and teaching and to promote interaction and fellowship among its members. Projects on the academic side include an annual student symposium, complete with presentation and publication workshops, publication of the papers presented at each symposium and outreach to local high schools and new undergraduate majors.

This year's symposium is scheduled for March 10, 2001. Activities include monthly brown bag lunches hosted by members of the Classics faculty, "Cheesy Classics" movie nights, socials and other fun-filled functions. Officers of ASCW are Jude Morris (president), Bekki Richards (vice-president), Amanda Coles (secretary), Amy Brennan (Treasurer) and Rachel Kahn and Michael Morello (undergraduate representatives).

ASCW has gotten off to a rapid, effective start. The association has already published its first newsletter, begun a program of support for Boulder High School students preparing for the Latin AP examination, issued a call for papers for its first symposium, planned a web-publishing workshop and hosted its first "Cheesy Classics" movie night at which viewers watched "Jason and the Argonauts."
