Translation

The programs of this application will translate your nucleotide sequence. Converts DNA to RNA to protein (Nucleotide sequences to protein sequences).

Instructions:

1. Select and Copy (Ctrl + C) the sequence you wish to translate.

2. Paste (Ctrl + V) or enter the sequence in the box provided by the translation program.

3. Select the reading frame.

You can choose one, three, or six reading frames.

4. Click on the “Translate” button to start program.

5. When the program is finish, it will display the sequence in the different reading frames.

Ideally, you want to choose the reading frame that most likely contains an actual protein sequence.

This will take practice, however, here are some tips:

- Look for a large size sequence that usually starts with Methionine and ends with a stop codon (represented by * ).

- Sequences with too many stop codons (*) are generally not good candidates for being the real protein sequence.

- The convention of reading these sequences are 5’ to 3’ (left to right), so you don’t have to worry too much about the 3’ to 5’ reading frames.

- You can always check your reference frame by run an alignment of that sequence to a sequence in the database.
