There are a couple programs
to choose from within RasMol all of which are very useful. The original
RasMol manual was created by Roger Sayle, and version 2.7 is the most recent version
that has been made available. These
directions will allow you to save the RasMac program to your desktop. If you desire to save the program in a file
it can be done easily but the topic will not be addressed here.
1. Access the web page where downloading is possible : RasMol Downloading
2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select “RasMac_PPC_32BIT.bin”
next to the Mac: heading.
3. At this point, it is likely that the program will be
saved to your desktop, which means downloading was successful and you may skip
to direction 6 to download the help file.
4. If instead a screen appears with strange coding, there is
one additional step necessary.
5. At the page with this coding go to the top command line
and select File => Save As, then save the file to your desktop.
6. All that is remaining is to download the help file. Click on
rasmol.hlp hot link that is next to the RasMac_PPC_32BIT.bin file
that was just downloaded.
7. The help program will come up, on the main command line
select File => Save As, and save the help file to your desktop.
8. RasMol is now on your computer and you are ready to use
the program to view structures in 3D.
