Submit sequence and get back
the protein name/information. This is a valuable tool that allows you to submit
a protein sequence and have a list of proteins returned to you in order of
similarity. It also allows a user to identify the name of the protein as well
as the possible origin to which it belongs. Use this when you are only given a
polypeptide sequence and are required to research and analyze the sequence, it
is useful first to identify the protein that the polypeptide represents. This
is useful for both entire or partial protein sequences.
Instructions:
1. Paste the desired
protein sequence into the box.
(There can be no spaces, numbers
or headings)
2. Under the “Choose
search method” pick “BLASTP + BEAUTY”
(It is the second choice)
3. Select “Perform
Search”
(There may be a delay while the
database is analyzed.)
4. The results will give you the most related proteins,
and more information on these proteins can be obtained.
5. The Help menu found under [H] next to each of the Search Methods is useful if you get stuck or have additional questions.
