Boulder Activities, Recreation, Health and Weather When you visit Boulder, don't miss viewing the Flatirons and experiencing the Pearl Street Mall. Located in the center of downtown, Pearl Street historically has been the cityxs xMain Street.x Today it is a renovated four block pedestrian mall bustling with dozens of fine shops, galleries, restaurants, sidewalk cafes and live entertainment. Day and night the Pearl Street Mall is center stage for Boulderxs residents, musicians, acrobats, jugglers and mimes. Boulder has many interesting and enchanting museums which bring to life our colorful past. There are also microbreweries, self-guided historical walking tours, and many guided tours of the area to special points of interest. Recreation Flatirons Golf Club is a public 18-hole golf course three miles from the University. Reservations for tee times are recommended. Please call (303) 442-7851 for information and reservations. The Student Recreation Center at the University features tennis, squash and racquetball courts, saunas, an ice rink, indoor swimming pool, gymnasium equipped for volleyball, badminton, and basketball, an aerobics room, and a full fitness center. Conference participants are eligible to purchase a daily or weekly pass. Information will be included in the Welcome Folder that will be available during the Symposium. There are numerous biking, hiking, walking, and jogging trails all around the city of Boulder. The Boulder Creek Path provides a beautifully wooded and peaceful setting through town along the rushing waters of Boulder Creek. Please remember Boulder's altitude of 5400 feet when exercising or consuming alcohol. Health Boulder Community Hospital is an excellent facility, should you require medical attention during your stay. Weather and Clothing The weather in Boulder in early June ranges from approximately 75-95 degrees during the day and 40-50 degrees at night. Dress on the University of Colorado campus is casual during the summer. Sport shirts and slacks or other casual summer clothes are suitable daytime wear for both men and women and are acceptable attire in most restaurants. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Colorado averages over 300 days of sunshine per year. However, an afternoon thunderstorm remains a possibility during your stay. Remember to bring an umbrella or raincoat. |
