The department is highly active in developing methods for nanoscale control over material properties. Research in this area focuses both on understanding and manipulating methods these methods and on linking fundamental science to the performance of nanostructure films and devices. Examples of specific research thrusts include:

  • Atomic layer deposition on particles and devices
  • Nanostructured self assembled arrays
  • Chemical and biological sensors
  • Nanostructured polymer films
