zeolite structure

Faculty: Davis, Falconer, Gin, Medlin, Noble

The department’s research in the area of membranes spans a wide variety of materials and applications. A major emphasis is the development of membranes with tailored nanostructures. Researchers in the department also focus on connecting the fundamental microstructural and fluid mechanical properties of membrane systems with separation performance. Specific research areas in membranes include the following:

  • Zeolite films for energy and other applications
  • Dense metal films for hydrogen purification / fuel cell applications
  • Nanostructured polymeric materials as toxic chemical barriers
  • Fluid mechanics in membranes
  • Room temperature ionic liquids

Preparation of nanostructured polymer membranes through monomer design
