Biopharmaceuticals
Faculty: Gill, Kompala, Randolph, Stansbury
Biopharmaceuticals research in the department includes development of efficient production schemes, novel delivery technologies and stable formulations for new drugs composed of proteins, peptides, RNA and DNA. Applications include:
•Room-temperature-stable vaccine formulations
•Genetic engineering to maximize protein folding in vivo
•High pressure technologies for refolding proteins
•Mechanistic understanding of the effects of processes such as lyophilization or microencapsulation on protein aggregation kinetics
•Studies of mechanisms for development of drug resistance in pathogenic bacteria
