Robert Elder, working with Prof. Jayaraman, received the ACS Peter Kollman Graduate Award in Supercomputing that recognized outstanding graduate students, particularly for projects that need high performance computing resources for their chemistry-related project. As a result, Robert is now the Principal Investigator of a new account on the “kraken” Cray XT5 supercomputer at the National Institute of Computational Sciences (NICS), with an allocation of computing time to support his research project. The award was given at the American Chemical Society meeting in Denver, September 2011

Kyle Berger, a PhD candidate working with Prof. Hrenya, was awarded an inaugural NASA Space Technology Research Fellowship Grant. Eighty-one students will receive graduate student fellowships from NASA’s Office of the Chief Technologist to pursue master’s or doctoral degrees in relevant space technology disciplines at their respective institutions. This first class of Space Technology Fellows is part of NASA’s strategy to develop the technological foundation for its future science and exploration missions. The program’s goal is to provide the nation with a pipeline of highly skilled engineers and technologists to improve U.S. competitiveness. To read the press release in its entirety click here. Cole deForest, a recent graduate of Prof. Anseth's group, won the DSM Polymer Technology Award which recognized the most outstanding graduate student or post-doctoral associate research in polymer technology with this year's focus being on Polymers at the Biology/materials Interface. The award was given at the American Chemical Society meeting in Denver, September 2011

Undergraduate Anna Blakney was selected as a winning applicant for one of only ten 2011 Provost's Achievement Awards. Provost Russell Moore provides a $1,000 scholarship to recognize exceptional achievements at CU Boulder and to encourage excellent work as a CU undergraduate.
