Alan Weimer received the 2006 Particle Technology Forum Service Award during the AIChE Annual Meeting in San Francisco, CA

Luis Hakim won the first prize at the Particle Technology Forum Poster Competition during the 2006 Annual AIChE Meeting held on November in San Francisco, California. His work was titled  "Modification of Interparticle Forces of Nanoparticles Using Atomic Layer Deposition "

On November 6, 2006 Luis Hakim successfully defended his Ph.D. Dissertation titled "Surface Modification of Nanoparticles Using Atomic Layer Deposition"

On October 26, 2006 Christopher Perkins successfully defended his Ph.D. Dissertation titled "Solar Thermal Decomposition of ZnO in Aerosol Flow to Facilitate Renewable Production of Hydrogen"

"Luis Hakim received Max S. Peters Outstanding Graduate Award"

Luis Hakim received the 2006 Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering Max S. Peters Outstanding Graduate Award at the departmental graduation banquet held May 11 in Boulder, CO .  The award is given annually to one Ph.D. student in recognition of exemplary efforts in research and service.  Luis received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the Monterrey Institute of Technology (Mexico) in 2000 and came to the University of Colorado (CU) in Fall, 2002.  

He is primary author of four published or in-press papers on the functionalization of primary nanoparticles by atomic layer deposition with three additional published papers as secondary author and four additional papers in preparation.  He has made seven professional oral presentations at national and/or international technical conferences and has been a mentor to five undergraduate researchers during his stay.  He has been active in outreach and leadership activities that have impacted a large number of middle and high school students in the Denver/Boulder/Longmont area.  He is currently a Senator for the CU Student Union Legislative Council and the departmental representative for the United Government of Graduate Students.  Luis is a member of both the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the American Ceramic Society.
