THERMOPHORESIS IN VERTICAL TUBE FLOW

Experimental apparatus uses to investigate
thermophoretic deposition in upward
and downward flow.

The goal of this project is to determine the effects of mixed convection on the thermophoretic deposition patterns of aerosol particles in laminar, vertical tube flow.  An experimental system has been designed that obtains data on deposition as a function of axial distance.  A model is being developed that solves the Navier-Stokes equations and the general aerosol dynamics equations.  The understanding of this phenomenon is important in the production of ceramic powders in aerosol flow reactors.
