Welcome...

Join us and become
part of a world-class program.
Our department has been ranked 19th overall and 10th among public graduate programs by U.S. News & World Report, and ranked 4th in average citations per publication by University Science Indicators,
(see
SCI-BYTES 2000-2004).

We're Moving!

Watch for more details as we plan to move into our new state of the art building....

Our new building is in the early planning stages and is slated for completion Fall 2011! In this new facility our department will continue to offer cutting-edge training to outstanding graduate and undergraduate students.
Our research programs which are extremely active, will continue with an even stronger focus on how fundamental science can be extended to engineering applications.

Learn more about our research strengths which  include biomaterials and tissue engineering, biopharmaceuticals, metabolic engineering, renewable energy, complex fluid behavior, functional materials designed at the micro- and nanoscale level, catalysis, sensors, membranes, and polymers.
Strengths in these areas are underscored by industry-supported centers in membranes, biorefining, and photopolymerizations, and by government-funded graduate training programs in biotechnology, renewable energy, sensors, and functional materials.  Our strong undergraduate program emphasizes a high degree of faculty-student interactions, an active learning classroom environment, undergraduate research and multiple interdisciplinary degree options.
