Kayla Weston Wins 1st Place in AIChE Poster Competition

Kayla Weston took 1st place in the Materials Engineering and Sciences Division Undergraduate Student Poster Competition at the AIChE 2013 Annual Meeting in San Francisco for her poster titled ”A Method for Clean H2 Generation from Solar Heat and Water.”

Weston is a member of the Weimer group.

Staci Van Norman

Staci Van Norman Award 2nd Place at AIChE Poster Competition

Staci Van Norman took 2nd place in the Particle Technology Forum Graduate Student Poster Competition at the AIChE 2013 Annual Meeting in San Francisco.

Van Norman is a graduate student in the Weimer group.  She won for her poster "'Radically' New Deposition of Co Particles."

Rachel Viger Takes 3rd Place in AIChE Poster Competition

Rachel Viger took 3rd place in the Computing, Simulation and Process Control Division Undergraduate Student Poster Competition at the 2013 AIChE Annual Meeting in San Francisco.

Her poster was titled, “Theoretical Model of a Thermochemical Metal Oxide Cycle for Hydrogen Production.”  Viger works in the Weimer lab.

Mark Tibbitt

Mark Tibbitt Wins 2012 Outstanding Thesis Award

Former Anseth graduate student Dr. Mark W. Tibbitt has received the 2012 Outstanding Thesis Award by the Max Bergmann Center for Biomaterials in Dresden.

The award ceremony will be during the Engineering Life Conference, "Biomolecular Principles for Novel Methods and Materials" (9th Max Bergmann Symposium) on September 17-18, 2013 in Dresden.

Jia Chew

Jia Chew Awarded 2013 AIChE Best Ph.D. Thesis in Particle Technology

Congratulations to Dr. Jia Chew, who was awarded the 2013 AIChE Best Ph.D. Thesis in Particle Technology for her experimental research on the impact of polydispersity on multiphase flows. 

Dr. Chew received her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering in 2011 as a member of Christine Hrenya’s research group. She has recently accepted a tenure-track faculty position at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

High School Student Working in Falconer/Noble/Funke Lab Wins National Awards

Fairview High School student Michael Chen, 16, has had a busy spring award season. Michael has conducted research on zeolite membranes in the Falconer lab under the guidance of Associate Professor Hans Funke since the Fall of 2012, and his work has recently been acclaimed at the national level.

Tyler Martin and Matt McBride Win NSF Graduate Fellowships

Congratulations to graduate students Tyler Martin and Matt McBride, both of whom have received prestigious NSF Graduate Fellowships. Both were NSF-REU students in our department before joining ChBE as graduate students.

Tyler is advised by Arthi Jayaraman while Matt is advised by Chris Bowman.

Katie Lewis

Katie Lewis Receives Whitaker Fellowship

May 24, 2013

Katie Lewis, a graduate student in the Anseth lab, received a 2013 Whitaker International Program Summer Grant to work for two months this summer with Prof. Justin Cooper-White's group at the Australian Institute for Bioengineering & Nanotechnology at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia.

Katie will be studying photodegradable microsphere polymerization in microfluidic devices.
