Jia Chew

Jia Chew Awarded 2013 AIChE Best Ph.D. Thesis in Particle Technology

Congratulations to Dr. Jia Chew, who was awarded the 2013 AIChE Best Ph.D. Thesis in Particle Technology for her experimental research on the impact of polydispersity on multiphase flows. 

Dr. Chew received her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering in 2011 as a member of Christine Hrenya’s research group. She has recently accepted a tenure-track faculty position at Nanyang Technilogical University, Singapore.

Rich Noble

Rich Noble Receives 2013 NSPE Engineering Education Excellence Award

Congratulations to Professor Rich Noble, who was chosen to receive the 2013 National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) Engineering Education Excellence Award!

Rich will receive a cash prize of $5,000 and will be recognized in PE Magazine as well as on the NSPE website.

High School Student Working in Falconer/Noble/Funke Lab Wins National Awards

Fairview High School student Michael Chen, 16, has had a busy spring award season. Michael has conducted research on zeolite membranes in the Falconer lab under the guidance of Associate Professor Hans Funke since the Fall of 2012, and his work has recently been acclaimed at the national level.

Tyler Martin and Matt McBride Win NSF Graduate Fellowships

Congratulations to graduate students Tyler Martin and Matt McBride, both of whom have received prestigious NSF Graduate Fellowships. Both were NSF-REU students in our department before joining ChBE as graduate students.

Tyler is advised by Arthi Jayaraman while Matt is advised by Chris Bowman.

Katie Lewis

Katie Lewis Receives Whitaker Fellowship

Katie Lewis, a graduate student in the Anseth lab, received a 2013 Whitaker International Program Summer Grant to work for two months this summer with Prof. Justin Cooper-White's group at the Australian Institute for Bioengineering & Nanotechnology at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia.

Katie will be studying photodegradable microsphere polymerization in microfluidic devices.

Kristi Anseth Awarded the 2013 Hazel Barnes Prize

Distinguished Professor Kristi Anseth was awarded the 2013 Hazel Barnes Prize, the highest recognition given to a CU-Boulder faculty member for research and teaching.

Congratulations to ChBE undergraduates Benjamin Mead and Brandon Lin, who were chosen by the department to be recognized at the April 26 Awards Banquet as Distinguished Seniors.
