Jace BlackburnThe winner of the Genentech Outstanding Student Award is CBEN junior Jace Blackburn. This annual award recognizes one CU chemical and biological engineering student and includes both $2500 and a summer internship at Genentech’s San Francisco location.  

As a student research assistant in CU Denver’s Department of Neurology, Blackburn has investigated the efficacy of the Genentech drug Rituxan in treating multiple sclerosis. He has also modified and analyzed lysine molecules in the Cha research lab.

Apart from research and school, Blackburn has been active in Engineers Without Borders; he led a team of students to Peru in July 2015 and currently serves as the Finance Officer.

Of his new internship opportunity Blackburn says, “I couldn’t be more excited to work for Genentech in San Francisco next summer!”
