The Chancellor's Leadership Studies Program
The Chancellor's Leadership Studies Program (CLSP) is a community of engaged learners working together to create a world
that works for everyone. As we grow towards this vision it is the mission of the CLSP
to nurture the development of culturally competent leadership and practice an ethic of civic responsibility and service.
The Program features:
- Leadership education and development
- Social Issues Projects
- Leadership retreats
- Small classes with outstanding faculty
Leadership Education and Development
Leadership for the 21st Century, Understanding Privilege and Oppression in Contemporary Society constitute the core of our leadership program. In these courses students explore their roles and responsibilities in society including moral and ethical dimensions of leadership. Students and instructors discuss privilege, oppression and empowerment, focusing on social issues related to race, class, sexual orientation and physical ability.

Leadership and Social Issues Projects
Working on projects in the campus and local community introduces students to new experiences that may challenge their opinions and assumptions about society. As students become involved in their projects they will meet people that may have very different life experiences than their own. Opportunities for reflection on their experiences are the basis for personal exploration of what it means to be you in relation to others, with your specific beliefs, values, background, education, abilities, racial identity, gender, and hopes for the future.
Leadership Retreats
Twice a year, CLSP students and staff attend weekend long retreats. Participants have in depth discussions related to topics being developed in leadership classes and take part in outdoor activities that develop leadership skills. Getting to know and understand each other better is one result of these weekends away from campus.
Small Classes with Outstanding Faculty
In addition to the required leadership classes, students can choose to take Topics in Leadership and Compassionate Leadership and Mindfulness, both one credit hour elective courses. CLSP instructors are highly rated by students on campus and love teaching smaller sized classes at Williams Village.
