Minutes: 6-1-99

June 1, 1999
Regent 1B29

Present: S. Avery, J. Delaney, B. Kaempfer, C. Marsh and R. Porreca

BK stated that he had talked to Pauline Hale and that she is very interested in editing the self-study report. Phil DiStefano will talk to Chancellor Byyny regarding her employment assignments for the rest of the year.

CM reported that the GIRs are 90% done. Cathryn will have a draft for the committee next week.

Chapter I Review

BK commented that Chapter I is in pretty good shape. The cover letter shows clarification of the plan, whether or not the parts of the charge have been met, and is short and concise. The idea of excluding some historical things and creating another introductory chapter is good. The report starts out with the examination of the mission statement, which is very good.

JD stated that the goals are focused on what is needed, and not repetitive. The 1-1Ž2 pages of the university history could be put in the appendices or in an introductory chapter.

BK commented that the Table on page 5 has to be included but is also part of programs/assessments and could be in Chapter III also. History data on campus and 10 year snap shot is good.

SA stated that the tone for Chapter I is very concise and short. What about Chapter II?

BK responded that if Pauline Hale is able to attend the meeting next week S Avery can discuss this issue with her. We will need a general discussion on this. A bullet style lends it self more to inclusion of web links.

Next step for Chapter I is final editing and publishing it on the web site.

SA spoke at Dean’s Council and states that they created a list of other issues/concerns more appropriate for other chapters. Susan will send this information to Bill K.

Susan stated that we need to agree on a common format for all chapters-either bullets or more literary style. Last self-study was literary style.

BK reminded the committee that the report would be circulated at the end of summer to CEC, UCSU, UGGS, Council of Deans, and Staff Council, etc. for review. Will send out an e-mail invitation to visit the web site. Please note that the self-study will be publicly available (i.e., not password protected) and will be on a separate server during editing/finalization stages.

Next Week: Chapter II - D. Pinkow will have a new draft for the committee to review and Cathryn will have a draft of GIRs

Meetings this Month: June 8th, 15th, and 22nd
