Minutes: 1-26-98In attendance: Avery, Dalrymple, Delaney, Hill, Pinkow, McClelland, Kaempfer, Foote Foote reported that Iowa is doing a special emphasis on technology and a very short general review focusing on internal mechanisms for control and audit of programs, including the strategic plan, etc. She also said that she would attend a conference on general education assessment from 2-12 to 2-14 and would report back. The annual NCA meeting is 3-28 to 3-31. Foote will attend, McClelland will also. Foote asked for ideas on how to approach criteria and GIRs. Delaney suggested we divvy the criteria up among the committee to study and research them. This was agreed to, and members will be prepared at the next meeting to indicate which area they will study. It was noted that the report should not have numerous writers. Parts of this review will be different from 10 years ago: assessment, federal compliance, third party comment. We also need to define the objectives of the study. One is certainly to be reaccredited. Another may be to seek broader campus involvement in the two focus areas. Another might be to keep campus constituents involved in the process. Kaempfer notes that we need to develop a set of instructions for deans on how to prepare their part of the study. Need also to consider what goes on the Web and what does not. To that end there will be a meeting of people concerned about the Web to discuss what is already there and what should be put on. Members of the committee are welcome to attend. McClelland indicated material submitted to CCHE that overlaps with self study material will be on the Web. Kaempfer said Facilities Master Plan will also be on the Web. Kaempfer noted that we should make reservations for events conference room to house the NCA team. Issues that have changed since last review include space and budget reductions. Next week: think about questions/charge for each sub-committee and what kind of information is needed.
