Guidelines for Online Course Instructors

These guidelines are prepared to help make your job easier. As always, if you have questions or a suggestion, don't hesitate to let us know at the Independent Learning office 303-492-5148, or toll free 800-331-2801.

You are the critical link between your students and the University of Colorado. Your efforts in commenting upon and in evaluating student work are the "instruction" portion of the whole enterprise of Independent Learning. The syllabus and the texts can do little more than provide the framework for independent study; it remains for the instructor to provide the all-important feedback without which the student cannot make the synthesis that signals learning.

In order for our office to provide you with the maximum assistance, we ask that you please do a few simple things for us:

  • Keep us notified of any changes in your address or phone number.
  • Let us know of any situations (vacation. etc.) that will prevent the timely return of student work.

We will notify your students of the situation and help them avoid misunderstandings and stress caused by delays.
