Dr. Hallowell's Biography Dr. Matthew R. Hallowell is an assistant professor in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering at the University of Colorado at Boulder. He began his academic career at Bucknell University where he earned a B.S. and M.S. in 2004 and 2005, respectively. Dr. Hallowell completed his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering at Oregon State University with a major concentration in Construction Engineering and Management and a minor concentration in Occupational Safety and Health. Dr. Hallowell’s primary research interests include construction safety and health, risk management, and construction innovation. He is currently investigating safety risk quantification, safety program optimization, application of sensing technologies to safety management, emerging construction technologies, and enhancing innovation within construction organizations. He also serves as a peer-reviewer for the American Society of Civil Engineers Journal of Construction Engineering and Management and on the technical and scientific committee for International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB) W99. Dr. Hallowell has taught undergraduate courses such as Introduction to Construction, Construction Safety, Construction Contracts, and Building Construction Management. He also teaches a graduate course Construction Safety and Quality that focuses on emerging safety management and risk analysis techniques. Prior to joining the University of Colorado at Boulder faculty, he worked as a structural engineer and construction quality inspector. |
