Fall 2009 - Spring 2010 Workshops

Rocky Road: Teaching the Past and Present of Sino-Japanese Relations. Dec 5, 2009.
Held at CU-Boulder campus. This workshop begins with an examination of Japan's aggression in China in the context of World War II and explores how this 20th-century history affects the critical Sino-Japanese relationship today. A morning session with CU Assistant Professor of History Miriam Kingsberg will focus on “The Great Pacific War, 1931-1945: Fighting It Then, Contesting It Now.” In an afternoon curriculum session, teachers will work with SPICE curriculum developer Rylan Sekiguchi on the new SPICE unit, Divided Memories, which examines how textbooks in China, Japan, and other countries teach this history to their students and explores the fundamental issue of understanding historical narratives in national and international contexts. Teachers will receive the SPICE unit. Click here for registration form. Registration Deadline is November 24.
