The CU Boulder Asian Studies Graduate Association (CUBASGA) is pleased to report that its annual conference was a great success! On February 3 and 4, twenty-one graduate students from around the world gathered at Norlin Library and the University Memorial Center to share their research in the fields of Chinese and Japanese literature and culture. Presentations topics included early imperial Chinese historiography, Buddhist mummies in imperial Japan, and modern literature across East Asia. In addition to the wonderful student presentations, we were pleased to welcome Professor Li Wai-yee from Harvard University and Professor Michele Mason from University of Maryland College Park. Their respective talks on conceptions of the term “genuine” in Chinese literary history and attempts by Nakazawa Keiji to address the plight of survivors of the atomic bombings in his manga were very well-received by the audiences on both days and we would like to thank them for sharing their time with us. We also like to extend a special thank you to all of the conference participants and organizers from CU, whose hard work ensured that our guests saw the very best that the university has to offer.

This conference was only possible with the help of the Center for Asian Studies. Its continued support of our annual conference ensures that we are able to provide this forum for graduate students to share their research in a welcoming environment while also receiving feedback from the very best scholars the field has to offer. We look forward to working with CAS in the years to come!

Finally, as our conference continues to grow each year, we continue to extend an open invitation to all of our friends in the Boulder area and beyond to join us at future conferences. No previous research experience in Asian Studies is required. All who are interested learning more about Asia and making new friends are welcome!
