Undergraduate Advising

Koelbel S210

Cheryl joined the Leeds advising staff in Spring 2013 as an academic advisor with a focus in advising and developing programming for the growing number of international students. She has a BA in English literature and history as well as MA in linguistics from the University of Utah. Before coming to Leeds, she was an academic advisor and coordinator of academic support services at the University of Colorado Denver for 12 years.

Cheryl has studied three foreign languages and taught English as a second language for 20 years in intensive English language programs and community colleges. In addition, she developed a bachelor’s degree program in teaching English as a Foreign Language for the Autonomous University of Mexico in Sinaloa, Mexico while on a Fulbright scholar’s grant in 1997-1998. She is also active in the Colorado Fulbright Alumni Association and has served as the board secretary for over 10 years. She has been a strong advocate for international experiences for all students throughout her career.

She thinks that advising and teaching are rewarding because of the opportunity to help students reach their potential and fulfill their goals. One of the joys of working with students is that they teach her as much as she teaches them.

If Cheryl isn’t working or spending time with family, she is traveling or planning her next trip.
