Associate Dean for Undergraduate Affairs

Alfred Smith is the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Affairs at the Leeds School of Business. He joined the Leeds School in August 2011 after serving as the Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Programs for the College of Business at the University of Nevada Las Vegas.
Smith received both his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Master of Arts in Education from East Carolina University. In 1994, he earned his PhD in Counselor Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Since 1994 Smith has worked in a variety of roles in Student and Academic Affairs at East Carolina University including serving as the Clinical Coordinator of the Center for Counseling and Student Development, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Development, and Director of the First Year Center. In 2008 Smith became the Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Programs at the College of Business at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. During his career, Smith has administered a variety of programs and services that improved student success and learning. Most notably Smith has been responsible for directing a campus wide freshman seminar program, coordinating an academic intervention program, creating a variety of student leadership programs, and improving student satisfaction in a variety of student services areas. In addition to serving in these leadership roles, Smith has published articles and presented nationally/ internationally on a variety of student development related topics and has authored a text book on the first year experience.
As Associate Dean of Undergraduate Affairs, Smith is responsible for managing the undergraduate experience at the Leeds School of Business which includes the areas of first year programs, undergraduate advising, diversity affairs, mentoring programs, and student involvement.
