University Student Loans and Debt Management
Past Due Tuition Accounts
All prior semester past due student accounts are referred to the Student Debt Management (SDM) department for collection. You have a limited opportunity to establish a payment arrangement with SDM before your account is reported negatively on your credit report and placed with a third party collection agency per Colorado law. Currently, CU-Boulder refers accounts to the state's Central Collection Service (CCS).
To dispute a tuition debt, you will need to make a formal appeal to the Bursar's Office. Disputes will only be considered under extenuating circumstances such as natural disaster (fire, flood, etc.), death in the family, medical, or unexpected financial crisis. Official documentation must be provided to substantiate the circumstances. For more information and to download the tuition dispute form, go to tuition dispute.
For late payment penalities, please read our payment terms.
If you have any questions, please contact us at 303-492-5571, 800-925-9844 or bursar@colorado.edu.
We are happy to work with you!
