Summer 2009 Mandatory Fees Detail

Administrative, Matriculation, Program, and UCSU Student Activity make up the total mandatory fees.

The Board of Regents reserves the right to change the costs for tuition, fees and room and board at any time.

Arts and Cultural Enrichment Fee $10.00 Supports on-campus performing arts. Provides no charge or reduced cost admission for students to museums, performances, etc. Student supported, approved by the administration and the Board of Regents in June 1995.
International Student Processing Fee (SEVIS) $22.00 The Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) funds mandatory federal compliance reporting. Charged to international students. Approved by the Board of Regents in June 2003.

RTD Fee

$58.00 Allows students unlimited use of public transportation (RTD bus pass) in Boulder County, Broomfield, Westminster, and Denver, including to DIA (Denver International Airport). Includes special services such as Broncos Ride and Rockies Ride. This fee also supports: Night Hop Shuttle connecting the Hill area to downtown Boulder; Day Hop, Stampede, Skip, and others. There is no charge for either service.

Student initiated, approved by the administration and the Board of Regents in 1991.

 

Student Information System (SIS)Fee $7.00 For maintenance and upkeep of 4-campus student online computer systems (each campus of the 4-campus system contributes to this support). Approved by the administration and the Board of Regents in 1984.

Supports five capital construction projects: Law School, ATLAS, Business School, IT Infrastructure and Visual Arts. Twenty percent of the revenue will be allocated to need-based financial aid.

Student bill passed in 2004. Begins in fall 2006. Fee is implemented on a progressive basis increasing to $200 per student per semester in FY2010.

Used for building, maintaining, expanding, and updating computing labs, and providing all students with access to computing accounts including e-mail, the Internet, etc. Originated in 1990. Student and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs supported, approved by the Board of Regents.

  • The Matriculation fee is a one-time, non refundable fee assessed at time of first registration for students entering a program.
  • Nondegree students who are admitted to degree status are charged the matriculation fee at the time they first register.
  • The fee varies depending upon degree and international status.
  • This fee is non refundable and is due even if a student withdraws.

ASSET (Arts and Sciences Support for Educational Technology) Fee $1.32 per credit hour Supports development and delivery of instruction in the college of Arts and Sciences. Approved by the Board of Regents in April 2008.
Engineering Excellence Fee $18.00 per course Supports the operations of the Integrated Teaching and Learning Laboratory, the Discovery Learning Center and the Herbst Program of Humanities. Approved by the Board of Regents in May 2005.
Environmental Design Program Fee $33.00 per course up to a $297 max Applies to all ENVD students to support their computer labs, Visual Resource Center, and Wood Shop. Approved by the Board of Regents in 2002.
Journalism Instructional Program Fee $25.00 per course Supports equipment and instructional needs. Approved by the Board of Regents in May 2007.
Music Major Program Fee $175 per semester Replaces all current course fees for major courses in music. Approved by the Board of Regents in April 2008.
UCSU Student Activity Fees & Referenda Fees, Session D, 10 weeks: $212.57

Part of the UCSU student activity fee may only be waived due to extraordinary circumstances. Base fees must still be paid. Petitions to waive UCSU fees must be received by 5:00 p.m. on August 7, 2009 for summer. No late petitions are accepted. Petitions may be picked up and turned in at the UCSU office in UMC 125, and must include documentation of the reasons for waiving the fees. (UCSU phone: 303-492-7475).

Environmental Center $4.25 2% Student-run resource center encouraging environmental involvement of the campus community. Promotes alternative transportation, water and energy conservation, and responsible resource use by students, faculty and staff. Begun by students after the first Earth Day. In1976 CU Recycling was initiated, and the Environmental Center began receiving UCSU funding. CU Recycling began the new partnership in 1992. It is the largest campus recycling operation in the US.
KVCU $2.55 1.2% Radio station serving campus and surrounding Boulder community with 24 hours of news, weather, sports, and alternative music; provides 100-150 volunteers with experience in radio, production, advertising, marketing, business and management. Student initiated, approved by the administration and the Board of Regents.
Legal Services $2.55 1.2% Provides direct legal services (i.e. counseling, negotiation, document preparation and in-court representation) to fee-paying students. Student supported, approved by the administration and the Board of Regents. As mandated by the Board of Regents, 20% of Legal Services budget is self-generated.
Off Campus Student Services $2.55 1.2% Maintains listings of rooms, houses, and apartments for rent in the Boulder community, and lists of students looking for roommates; offers advice about leases, security deposits, how to avoid landlord tenant problems. Student supported, approved by the administration and the Board of Regents.
Outdoor Recreation Facilities $6.70 3.15% Provides the necessary funding for improvements of outdoor recreation facilities  
Police Recharges $ .74 .35% Payment to the CU Police Department for patrolling the UMC, Wardenburg Health Center, and the Student Recreation Center.  
Recreation Center Bond $8.10 3.81% Payment for the recreation center expansion.  
Student Organizations Finance Office (SOFO) $3.61 .60% Acts as an on-campus "bank" for student groups and government. Provides event & conference travel assistance. All student groups which use campus facilities for fundraising must have an account with SOFO. Student supported, approved by the administration and the Board of Regents.
Student Recreation Center $50.59 23.80% Meets group and individual recreation needs of campus. Jointly governed by UCSU and the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, approved by the Board of Regents.
Small Cost Center Capital: renewal and replacement $ .21 .10% For purchase and/or replacement for small groups cost centers. Initiated in 1997.
Student Outreach & Retention Center for Equity $1.28 .60% Multicultural center dedicated to serving current and prospective students. SORCE targets underrepresented students, including students of color, LGBTQI students, students with disabilities, first generation students, low income students, and non-traditional students.  
UMC Expansion Bond $22.60 10.63% Payment for UMC renovation.  
Uncollectible $ .11 .05% Reduces bad debt expense.  
University Memorial Center $54.84 25.80% Provides central location for variety of educational and out-of-classroom activities. Jointly governed by UCSU and the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, approved by the Board of Regents.
University of Colorado Student Union (UCSU) $5.53 2.60% Makes policy and budget decisions, and is an advocate for students on campus, throughout the CU system, and at the state and national levels of government. Student run, approved by the Chancellor and the Board of Regents.
Volunteer Clearing House $ .64 .30% Works with non-profit agencies in Boulder community, and with UCSU and student groups on campus as a volunteer placement agency. Student supported, approved by the administration and the Board of Regents.
Wardenburg Health Center $37.00 17.41% In existence since 1958, the clinic provides health care for university affiliates. Boulder campus fee paying students receive care at a discounted cost in most areas. 31.2% of Wardenburg's operating budget is currently supported by student fees. Jointly governed by USCU and the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, approved by the Board of Regents since mid 1980s.
Women's Resource Center $2.76 1.30% Centralizes information on women's services, organizations, and events through a variety of resources in a women-centered space. Initiated in 1993.

Engineers Without Borders $.45 .21% Funds the group to implement sustainable development projects that provide developing communities with adequate shelter, sanitation, and clean drinking water. Voted in 2005 for a four-year period.
Indigenous Support Network $.45 .21% Funds research of global social and economic development of indigenous people. Voted in 2005 for a four-year period.
180 Degree Shift at the 11th hour $.45 .21% Campaign to ensure respect and protection for human rights and environment, women's rights, workers' rights, and prevention of environmental degradation that may be associated with unethical corporate behavior or corruption. Voted in 2005 for a four-year period.
Solar Decathlon/CURE $.45 .13% Project to maintain CU-Boulder's reputation as a leader in solar energy and energy efficient design. Voted in 2005 for a four-year period.
Students Emergency Medical Services $.45 .21% Implements and promotes emergency medical treatment to treat alcohol, drug, and injury prevention at student organizations sponsored functions. Voted in 2005 for a four-year period.
Student for Environmental Action Coalition $.45 .21% Supports environmental and social justice at our school and communities. Voted in 2005 for a four-year period.
Student Worker $.45 .21% Builds programs for CU students and employees to work together on solutions to CU's financial situation. Voted in 2005 for a four-year period.
Sustainable CU $2.80 1.32% Implements a solar energy/recycling/composting, and energy efficiency initiative to decrease dependence on foreign fossil fuels, cut toxic emissions, and lower energy costs. Voted in 2005 for a four-year period.
