Mandatory Fees consist of Administrative and Technology, New Student, Program, and UCSU Student Activity fees.

The Board of Regents reserves the right to change the costs for tuition and fees and room and board at any time.

Arts Fee (Arts and Cultural Enrichment Fee) $10.00 Supports on-campus performing arts. Provides no charge or reduced cost admission for students to museums, performances, etc. Student supported, approved by administration and Board of Regents in June 1995.
ASSET (Arts and Sciences Support for Educational Technology) Fee $1.32 per credit hour Supports development and delivery of instruction in the college of Arts and Sciences. Approved by Board of Regents in April 2008.
Athletic Fee $28.50 Supports quality intercollegiate athletics programs and reduces student ticket prices (students carrying total credit hours of 3 or less do not pay Athletic Fee). Originally mandated by Board of Regents in 1980.
Career Services Fee $9.00
Charged to all Boulder campus degree seeking students except law and D status grad students. Provides students with help deciding on a major, professional career counseling , a resource center, skills presentations, video practice interviews, recommendation files, online listings of internship and career opportunities, on-campus interviewing, career and internship fairs, and more! Board of Regents approved in June 2001.
International Student Processing Fee (SEVIS) $22.00 The Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) funds mandatory federal compliance reporting. Charged to international students. Board of Regents approved in June 2003.

$72.00 Allows students unlimited use of public transportation (RTD bus pass) in Boulder County, Broomfield, Westminster, and Denver, including to DIA (Denver International Airport). Includes special services such as Broncos Ride and Rockies Ride. This fee also supports: Night Hop Shuttle connecting the Hill area to downtown Boulder; Day Hop, Stampede, Skip, and others. There is no charge for either service.

Student initiated, administration and Board of Regents approved in 1991.

 

Student Information System (SIS)Fee $7.00 For maintenance and upkeep of 4-campus student online computer systems (each campus of the 4-campus system contributes to this support). Administration and Board of Regents approved in 1984.

Supports five capital construction projects: Law School, ATLAS, Business School, IT Infrastructure and Visual Arts. Twenty percent of the revenue will be allocated to need-based financial aid.

Student bill passed in 2004. Begins in fall 2006. Fee is implemented on a progressive basis increasing to $200/student/semester in FY2010.

  • The New Student Fee is a one-time, nonrefundable fee assessed at time of first registration for students entering a program.
  • Nondegree students who are admitted to degree status are charged the New Student Fee at the time they first register.
  • The fee varies depending upon degree and international status.
  • This fee is nonrefundable and is due even if a student withdraws.

Supports fuel, equipment, supplies, and a growing reliance on computer technology and software needs for students. Approved by the Board of Regents in April 2009.
Business Career Center Fee $23 per semester Supports career counseling for undergraduate business students, mini career fairs and access to the University of Colorado job board, Career Services Online. Approved by the Board of Regents in May 2007
Communications Program Fee $5 per credit hour Supports the Technology Across the Curriculum Program, which designs, implements and supports the introduction and use of technology for Communication courses, ranging from clickers to cameras, and more. Approved by the Board of Regent in May 2006.
Dance Program Fee $15 per credit hour Supports maintenance costs, equipment, guest speakers and performers, performance materials, required attendance subscription tickets, and accompanists. Approved by the Board of Regents in April 2009.
Economics Program Fee $5 per course Funds activities of the Economics Club like graduation ceremony support, speaker, etc. and tutorial resources to support undergraduate success in economics courses. Approved by the Board of Regents in April 2009.
Engineering Excellence Fee $18 per course Supports the operations of the Integrated Teaching and Learning Laboratory, the Discovery Learning Center and the Herbst Program of Humanities. Approved by the Board of Regents in May 2005.
Environmental Design Program Fee $297 per semester Supports computer labs, the Visual Resource Center, and Wood Shop. Charged to undergraduate environmental design students. Approved by the Board of Regents in April 2009.
Journalism Instructional Program Fee $25 per course Supports equipment and instructional needs. Approved by the Board of Regents in May 2007.
Music Major Program Fee $275 per semester Replaces all current course fees for major courses in music. Approved by the Board of Regents in April 2008.
Theater Program Fee $15 per credit hour Supports maintenance costs, equipment, guest speakers and performers, performance materials, required attendance subscription tickets, and accompanists. Approved by the Board of Regents in April 2009.
Writing and Rhetoric Program Fee $10 per course for upper-division courses

$25 per course for first year curriculum writing courses
Supports course enhancements, the operation of and upgrades for the program's mobile computer labs, guest speakers, activity fees, and general course support. Approved by the Board of Regents in May 2004.
UCSU Student Activity Fees per semester: $349.32

Payment of full UCSU student fees in the amount of $349.32 is mandatory for students unless enrolled in only one class of five or fewer credit hours in which case base fees in the amount of $59.64 are charged. If the student is eligible for base fees and is covered by Golden Buffalo Student Health Insurance plan, they must also pay the Wardenburg portion of student fees in the amount of $62.67. The full UCSU student activity fee may only be waived due to extraordinary circumstances such as a medical condition. Petitions to waive UCSU fees must be received by 5:00 p.m. on September 9, 2009 for fall semester, and January 27, 2010 for spring semester. No late petitions are accepted. Petitions may be picked up and turned in at the UCSU office in UMC 125, and must include documentation of the reasons for waiving the fees. (UCSU phone: 303-492-7475)

Cultural Events Board $7.89 2.26% Student-run organization dedicated to promoting cultural awareness on Boulder campus through wide variety of cultural programming since 1974. Student supported, administration and Board of Regents approved, 1974 to present.
Distinguished Speakers Board $2.14 .61% Obtain speakers of the highest caliber who will intellectually stimulate the student body and surrounding communities.  
Environmental Center $16.53 4.73% Student-run resource center encouraging environmental involvement of the campus community. Promotes alternative transportation, water and energy conservation, and responsible resource use by students, faculty and staff. Begun by students after the first Earth Day. In1976 CU Recycling was initiated, and the Environmental Center began receiving UCSU funding. CU Recycling began the new partnership in 1992. It is the largest campus recycling operation in the US.
Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Ctr $1.15 .33% Promote equal opportunity for successful academic, social and personal development for all GLBT students, staff and faculty, and their allies in a safe and supportive environment.  
Interactive Theatre Project $1.79 .51% Provides professionally scripted and improvisational performances addressing difficult issues that impact our community and that are designed to engage community, faculty, staff, and students about social justice issues.  
KVCU $2.68 .77% Radio station serving campus and surrounding community; 24 hours news, weather, sports, and music; provides 100-150 volunteers with experiences in radio, production, advertising, marketing, business, and management.  
Legal Services $4.57 1.31% Provides direct legal services (i.e. counseling, negotiation, document preparation and in-court representation) to fee-paying students. Student supported, administration and Board of Regents approved.
Off Campus Student Services $5.08 1.45% Maintains listings of rooms, houses, and apartments for rent in Boulder community, and lists of students looking for roommates; offers advice about leases, security deposits, how to avoid landlord tenant problems. Student supported, administration and Board of Regents approved.
Outdoor Recreation Facilities $10.75 3.08% Provides the necessary funding for improvements of outdoor recreation facilities  
Police Recharges $1.96 .56% Payment to the CU Police Department for patrolling the UMC, Wardenburg Health Center, and the Student Recreation Center.  
Small Cost Center Capital: renewal and replacement $0.35 .10% For purchase and/or replacement for small groups cost centers. Since 1997.  
Student Group Funding Board $9.44 2.70% Viewpoint neutral funding board for student groups and events.  
Student Organizations Finance Office (SOFO) $7.25 2.08% Acts as an on-campus "bank" for student groups and government. Provides event & conference travel assistance. All student groups which use campus facilities for fundraising must have an account with SOFO. Student supported, administration and Board of Regents approved.
Student Outreach & Retention Center for Equity $3.64 1.04% Multicultural center dedicated to serving current and prospective students. SORCE targets underrepresented students, including students of color, LGBTQI students, students with disabilities, first generation students, low income students, and non-traditional students.  
Student Recreation Center $88.71 25.40% Meets group and individual recreation needs of campus. Jointly governed by UCSU and Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs with Board of Regents approval.

University of Colorado Student Union (UCSU) $10.77 3.08% Makes policy and budget decisions, and is an advocate for students on campus, throughout the CU system, and at the state and national levels of government. Student run, Chancellor and Board of Regents approved.
University Memorial Center $101.73 29.12% Provides central location for variety of educational and out-of-classroom activities. Jointly governed by UCSU and Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs with Board of Regents approval.
Volunteer Clearing House $2.35 .67% Works with non-profit agencies in Boulder community, and with UCSU and student groups on campus as a volunteer placement agency. Student supported, administration and Board of Regents approved.
Wardenburg Health Center $62.67 17.94% In existence since 1958, the clinic provides health care for university affiliates. Boulder campus fee paying students receive care at a discounted cost in most areas. 31.2% of Wardenburg's operating budget is currently supported by student fees. Jointly governed by USCU and Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs. Board of Regents approved since mid 1980s.
Women's Resource Center $4.74 1.36% Centralizes information on women's services, organizations, and events through a variety of resources in a women-centered space. Since 1993
