Nominate your mentor by April 12 for UROP's Mentor Award

Hello world

UROP's Mentor Award recognizes campus individuals supporting undergraduates on research and creative projects, regardless of UROP funding. Award recipients will have the option to award an assistantship to an eligible undergraduate of their choosing in the next academic year.

Tenured/tenure-track research faculty, teaching faculty, postdocs and graduate students at CU Boulder and the Anschutz Medical Campus are eligible for UROP's Mentor Award.

Students are invited to nominate their mentors regardless of program funding, and we welcome submissions from early-stage researchers and creative practitioners. Students are able to submit group nominations by including a list of additional contributors on the form.

Nominations due by 5 p.m. on April 12.

Sustainability Council to hold open forum on April 12

The CU Boulder Sustainability Council is a cross-campus group of students, faculty and staff established in 2022. The council’s purpose is to make recommendations regarding policies, programs, initiatives and investments to advance sustainability. These recommendations augment the work of the more recently formed Campus Sustainability Executive Council.

The Sustainability Council invites the CU Boulder community to attend an in-person open forum during their upcoming meeting on April 12 from 9 to 10:10 a.m. in Kittredge Central Multipurpose Room B. After introductions from the council, individuals will be invited to ask questions and propose sustainability ideas beyond the Climate Action Plan (which is being led by a different group). Comments should be kept to three minutes or less to allow for the maximum number of participants.

The current priorities of the council are plastics and zero waste, food, and transportation. To submit related or additional ideas that cannot be accommodated during the in-person open forum, complete this form.

Enhancing the CU Boulder website: Your input matters!

We are thrilled to announce an exciting initiative aimed at reviewing the user experience of our university's main webpage. As valued members of the CU Boulder community, your insights are invaluable in shaping the future of our digital platform.

What is happening?

We (a group of engineering students) are conducting a comprehensive survey to gather feedback from faculty and students. Our goal is to understand better how we can enhance the accessibility and functionality of our main webpage to serve you better.

How can you help?

Faculty: We invite you to share information about our survey with your students. We appreciate your support in promoting the survey within your classes. Please also complete the survey, as your input will help shape the new webpage.

Students: Your input is vital! Please take the survey to have your voice heard and help shape the future of our university's digital platform.

Take the survey now.

Interested in diving deeper into this project?

We are forming a case study group and welcome student participation within your classes. These sessions will provide a platform for in-depth discussions and collaboration on our project objectives and strategies.

Case study group sessions April 8–12, April 15–19

Mondays: 5–6 p.m.
Tuesdays: 10–11 a.m., noon–1 p.m., 2–3 p.m.
Wednesdays: 12:15–1:15 p.m.
Thursdays: Noon–1 p.m.,1:30–2:30 p.m., 7–8 p.m.

Cardiovascular research study volunteers needed

The Integrative Physiology of Aging Lab is looking for volunteers to study the potential health effects of a new type of breathing exercise (a time efficient type of exercise) on blood pressure, vascular function and cognitive function.

Requirements:

  • Aged 50-plus years
  • Higher blood pressure (systolic BP 120-160 mmHg)
  • Willing to exercise up to 25 minutes per day, six days per week for a three-month period

Benefits include:

  • Detailed blood panel (cholesterol, glucose, etc.)
  • Physician-monitored exercise stress test
  • Blood pressure screening
  • Bone mineral density test
  • Monetary compensation for time

If interested, email IMSTstudy@colorado.edu or call 303-492-2485.

Volunteer for study on the effects of heat therapy on blood pressure, vascular function

The Integrative Physiology of Aging Lab at CU Boulder’s campus is seeking volunteers to participate in a clinical research study. We are looking for women and men, ages 40-plus, who are willing to participate in water immersion sessions approximately three times per week for 12 weeks, and have above normal blood pressure (a top number of 115 or higher; if you are unsure of your blood pressure, please still contact us for screening).

Benefits for volunteers include: cardiovascular health assessment, exercise stress test, body composition, blood chemistries and monetary compensation for time.

For more information, please email hottubstudy@colorado.edu or call 970-460-8970.

Requirements:

  • Aged 18+ years
  • Higher blood pressure (systolic BP 120–160 mmHg)
  • Own an Apple or Android smartphone
  • Willing to perform breathing exercises 5–10 minutes per day, six days a week, for six weeks

Paid research opportunity in the Integrative Physiology of Aging Lab

A biological hallmark of aging is “cellular senescence”, which is associated with cardiovascular dysfunction. Compounds called “senolytics” that decrease the number or amount of senescent cells may be effective for improving age-related cardiovascular dysfunction and possibly brain health.

The Integrative Physiology of Aging Lab at CU Boulder is trying to determine whether intermittent oral supplementation with a natural compound with senolytic properties called fisetin (found in strawberries, onions and cucumbers and available as dietary supplement) will improve blood vessel function, reduce artery stiffness, and improve cognitive function (a measure of brain health) in adults ages 65-plus.

Benefits for volunteers include: cardiovascular health assessment, cognitive function tests, blood tests and compensation for time.

For more information, please email fisetinstudy@colorado.edu, or call 303-735-6410.

Volunteers needed for cardiovascular research study

The Integrative Physiology of Aging Laboratory is looking for volunteers to study the potential health aging effects of nicotinamide riboside supplementation on blood pressure and physiological function.

Requirements:

  • Age 50–79 years
  • Higher than normal blood pressure
  • Willing to undergo a three-month period taking nicotinamide riboside or placebo pills

Benefits include:

  • Blood pressure screening
  • Detailed blood panel (cholesterol, glucose, etc.)
  • Monetary compensation for time

If interested, call 303-492-2485 or email nrstudy@colorado.edu.
