Gia-fu Feng and the Popularization of Daoism in America

At this Brown Bag event, Lucas Carmichael, Religious Studies, will discuss Gia-fu Feng in the history of Daoism in America. Early figures associated with Daoism in the United States tend to be understudied, including Gia-fu Feng. In addition to his Stillpoint Foundation, Feng made his most lasting impressions as a “Daoist Master” through his translations of the Daode jing and of the Zhuangzi. Feng deserves closer attention in order to better understand the transmission of Daoism in America. Friday, Oct. 25, 12 p.m., Guggenheim 201E.
