Boulder County residents encouraged to prepare for extreme summer temperatures

Boulder County Public Health offers tips to help everyone keep themselves, friends, family and pets safe when temperatures rise.

When temperatures reach 105 degrees Fahrenheit or above, everyone is at risk of heat-related illness. Heat-related illness and heatstroke can be fatal if not treated appropriately.

Air conditioning is the most effective way to stay safe during a heat emergency. Fans are not effective at lowering body temperatures and keeping vulnerable populations safe.

Some members of our county’s communities face higher risks during high temperatures. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says athletes, people 65 and over, infants, children, individuals with chronic conditions, low-income households and outdoor workers are especially at risk of heat-related illness.

  • 65–85 years of age
  • Free from neurological impairments
  • No recent lower body injuries
  • Ability to walk for six minutes unaided

The study consists of two visits to CU Boulder Main Campus on separate days (approximately 2.5 hours each). In each session, we will apply mild electrical stimulation using a TENS device and assess subjects' walking and balance capabilities.

Compensation is $60 for the two visits. If interested, please contact Mohammed Alenazy for more information: moal4255@colorado.edu, 720-231-9767.

Energy performance contract signed

The CU Boulder campus is taking action on the recommendations from the Energy Master Plan and recently signed an investment grade audit (IGA) contract with McKinstry Essential, LLC.

McKinstry will conduct an investment grade audit of our facilities (19 were identified for this round) and deliver a project proposal that could include energy and water efficiency measures, renewable energy systems, electric vehicle technology, operations and maintenance and metering infrastructure improvements. The purpose of the IGA is to review our facilities and infrastructure and ultimately present an audit report and energy performance contract project proposal. The IGA contract was signed on June 28.

The intent is to create a replicable program to execute additional phases of energy performance contracts in order to meet our energy-use reduction goals from the Energy Master Plan.

Last chance to vote in June 28 primary: Drop your ballot at the UMC

Don’t miss your opportunity to participate in Colorado’s primary election!

What to know

  • It is never too late to register to vote—you may register to vote up to and including Election Day!
  • Registered Democrats vote in the Democratic Primary; Republicans in the Republican Primary
  • Unaffiliated voters may vote in either party’s primary but may only vote in one primary.
  • Colorado is an all-options state: Registered voters are mailed ballot, which they can vote and return, or any voter can instead vote in-person at a vote center (see below).

Did you receive your ballot in the mail?

  • Drop your ballot off at the ballot dropbox outside of the UMC (located on the sidewalk leading up to the Southside Terrace on Euclid Avenue). The recommended deadline to return your ballot by mail has passed.
  • Not a Boulder County ballot? No problem—Colorado voters can use any official clerk dropbox in the state to return their mail ballot. As long as it is received to an official county clerk dropbox by 7 p.m. on Election Day, county clerks then make sure it is sent to right county for counting.
  • See dropbox locations in Boulder County.

Didn’t receive your ballot in the mail? No problem! At the UMC Voter Service Center, you can:

  • Drop off your ballot (all Colorado voters)
  • Register to vote/update your registration
  • Vote in person*
  • Request a replacement*

Operating hours are 8 a.m.–6 p.m. Monday, June 27, 8 a.m.–6 p.m. and 7 a.m.–7 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, June 28.

Don’t forget to bring valid ID such as your Buff OneCard or Colorado driver’s license/ID. See other ID options here.

*For out-of-county Colorado students, we can issue statewide ballots only; candidates for local contents will not appear.

If you are a student and have questions regarding registration, please visit Boulder County’s student voting guidelines. For on-campus students, you must have residence hall mailing address and your mailbox number. An alternative source for that information is in your housing assignment confirmation email, which may still be your MyCULiving portal.

Questions? Never hesitate to ask! Call 303-413-7740, email vote@bouldercountyvotes.org, or find us on social media at Boulder County Clerk / Elections.
