New student orientation occurs each January and summer for entering first-year and transfer students. Depending on your college or school, a variety of programs and sessions are available. CU-Boulder has approximately 1,200 full-time faculty members; 91 percent of them hold a PhD or an equivalent degree. Professors hold weekly office hours and can advise you about how you’re doing in class, what courses you should take, career options, and student research opportunities. Outside of the classroom, professors are conducting research in their individual fields and making a place for themselves and the university in the history books. Our faculty members have distinguished themselves in many fields, earning four Nobel Prizes and numerous other national and international awards.
If you work on an independent study project, you may choose a topic from a specific area of study or ask a professor to help you design a project tailored to your interests. Projects could include writing a play, doing laboratory research, or designing a space shuttle experiment. The Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) lets you combine your academic study with a military officer’s educational program. ROTC courses are open to all CU-Boulder students, even those not enrolled in ROTC. Scholarships are available to those who qualify.
The Student Academic Success Center (SASC) offers eligible undergraduates supplemental instruction for key courses, college learning strategies workshops, core curriculum mathematics and writing courses, individual consultations to improve academic performance, assistance for undergraduates who speak English as a second language, referrals for group and individual tutoring, and preparation for post baccalaureate study. The center hosts the McNeill Academic Program, Academic Excellence Student Support Services Program, and Ronald E. McNair Post Baccalaureate Achievement Program.

The Buff OneCard is your official CU-Boulder student ID to be used for your entire career at CU-Boulder. The card is required as official verification of eligibility for many student privileges, including access to residence hall buildings, the Student Recreation Center, all campus libraries, Wardenburg Health Center, dining halls, tickets for athletics events, free use of RTD buses, and more. If you lose your card or believe it has been stolen call 303-492-1212 immediately to have the card deactivated. This prevents others from using it.
