Halloween weekend

As Halloween weekend approaches, we’d like to encourage everyone to celebrate responsibly and have some fun. But as you do so, please take steps to ensure the health and safety of yourself and others.

Community Health to host "Let's Talk Sex" event Oct. 30

Giving students the tools to effectively communicate about sex is the drive behind the student-run "Let's Talk Sex" campaign.

Adventure film maker and CU Alum Michael Brown to speak at free student luncheon Nov. 2

Michael Brown, one of the world’s most accomplished adventure filmmakers and a CU-Boulder alumnus, will share his story during his talk “Beyond the Summit” at the Back to Boulder Luncheon. The luncheon, to be held Friday, Nov. 2, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the UMC Glenn Miller Ballroom, is free for all CU-Boulder students.

Class project helps divert 170,000 pounds of food from the dumpster

Sean Wiese’s project for a computer science class last year has been developed into a software application now being used by a Boulder nonprofit, and also led to an internship for Wiese with the nonprofit.

Climate variability and conflict risk in East Africa measured

While a new study led by the University of Colorado Boulder shows the risk of human conflict in East Africa increases somewhat with hotter temperatures and drops a bit with higher precipitation, it concludes that socioeconomic, political and geographic factors play a much more substantial role than climate change.

Join the challenge! Take the Pac-12 Fitness Challenge

Help CU secure the title of the Pac-12's most active school by participating in the Pac-12 Fitness Challenge from Oct. 22-28. The challenge is a conference-wide initiative promoting regular physical activity. This event is open to students, faculty, staff, alumni, friends and family.

Equestrian Team prepares for new season of competition

Imagine competing in a club sport where you meet your only teammate for the first time right before the competition begins. You’re not allowed to practice together beforehand and the equipment you use is new to you.

This may sound like an unreasonable challenge, but it’s designed to create a fair competition. Just ask juniors Kelly Meyer and Lauren DeGeorge, members of CU-Boulder's Equestrian Team, who compete in intercollegiate English and Western riding competitions, where they are judged on skill and ability.

Battle of the Bands to be held Oct. 19

CU Late Nite, Program Council and the Dennis Small Cultural Center have teamed up to present the 2012 Battle of the Bands competition to be held Friday, Oct. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the Glenn Miller Ballroom.

DiStefano, Moore host second town hall meeting on concealed carry issues at CU

About 75 faculty, staff and students shared concerns about concealed carry policies and how the university communicates them in a town hall meeting in the UMC’s Aspen Room Wednesday afternoon. 
 
CU-Boulder officials including Chancellor DiStefano, Provost Moore, Managing Senior Associate Counsel John Sleeman, Commander Robert Axmacher from the CU Police Department and the Chancellor’s Chief of Staff Catherine Shea listened to questions and entertained a community discussion on how Colorado’s concealed carry law applies to CU-Boulder.
