ABC’s reality competition series “Shark Tank” made a visit to the University of Colorado Boulder on Thursday. On the show, aspiring entrepreneurs get a chance to pitch their big ideas to a panel of tycoons in the hopes of securing an investment in their business or product.
“While we are starting to look more to university campuses across the country, we were particularly excited to target the Boulder/Denver area because it is really emerging as the next Silicon Valley,” said casting manager Mindy Zemrak. “We are also excited about the strong entrepreneurship programs here at CU-Boulder.”

On May 22, Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) Director Charles Elachi and his senior management team met with University of Colorado Boulder Chancellor Philip P. DiStefano and several other campus administrators to sign a memorandum of understanding to continue and broaden a rich tradition of collaboration on space and Earth-science efforts going back nearly 50 years. Located in Pasadena, Calif., JPL is a federally funded research and development facility managed by the California Institute of Technology for NASA.
As part of Colorado Literacy Week, on Monday afternoon Lt. Governor Joe Garcia visited a highly successful program at Godsman Elementary School in Denver that promotes not only literacy, but biliteracy in Spanish and English. In partnership with the CU-Boulder’s BUENO Center for Multicultural Education, the school has fully integrated the Literacy Squared® model. As a result, Godsman has achieved impressive reading and writing gains in both Spanish and English that have outpaced the district and the state.

The University of Colorado Academic Progress Rate (APR) report based on information for the four year period between 2009-10 and 2012-13 was released by the NCAA Wednesday with those of all other Division I schools, with CU reporting record news for all 16 of its intercollegiate athletic programs in that time frame.
