Education Bio:
Heather Thiry has a Ph.D. in educational foundations and policy from the University of Colorado. Her dissertation examined marketing and advertising practices in high schools. She has also studied undergraduate research apprenticeships in science, outreach programs in chemistry and biology, and pre-service science teacher preparation.
About:
Heather has worked with science faculty reformers as an evaluator for SENCER, a national project to incorporate civic issues into undergraduate science courses, and for a campus project to improve science teacher preparation. She has also evaluated science outreach programs for K-12 students and education-related professional development workshops for research scientists. She has expertise in ethnography, participant observation, qualitative and quantitative methods. Heather enjoys camping, hiking, backpacking, running and just about anything else that gets her outdoors.
