Music doctoral candidate Samantha Keehn performs
multi-media work inspired by poet William Carlos Williams

CU College of Music D.M.A. candidate Samantha Keehn produced and performed "Eight Poems of William Carlos Williams," a solo multi-media performance which incorporated trombone performance, percussion, spoken word, photography, video and stagecraft on Oct. 29th and 30th, 2009.

Each of Williams' poems was interspersed with music composed by David Vayo of Illinois Wesleyan University. The changing music and rhythms of the spoken words, together with the use of projected images and stagecraft, provided variety and contrast as each poem was interpreted and performed.

Keehn commented on her show, "I like to take an actor's or director's viewpoint when I approach a piece of music. I ask myself, 'How do I bring life to the piece? How do I elevate and expand upon the composition?' My performance is an opportunity to explore these issues."
