Performance text

A multi-media performance will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, in the Black Box Studio

Ryan Wurst's "Brief Interviews with Hideous Men" features collaborations between visual artists and classical, jazz and electronic musicians. The work is based on the David Foster Wallace book of the same name.

The stories are an emotional and psychological exploration of the ordinary man. The show is concerned with what actually makes these men hideous. Are these men shallow? Have they lost part of their humanity or are they simply bad people? The music is, for the most part, improvised. Each of the performers will be processed live by electronics and sent through six speakers.

The video and audio clips are from old Film-Noir movies. The paintings are titled: Landscapes, Flowers Lungs, Cigarettes, Bottles, Chairs, Shoes and Trees. Wurst, who is pursuing a degree in music composition at CU, is a composer, painter and digital artist. He specializes in work that encompasses many artistic disciplines. His works have been performed in Ireland, New York, Nebraska and Colorado.
