Classrooms

The ATLAS Building features instructional spaces designed to encourage creative uses of
in-class and distance learning technologies and engaged student learning practices. Faculty and instructors from
any discipline have the opportunity to teach in the ATLAS building.

The ATLAS building features a variety of innovative and creative instructional spaces:

• The 150-seat auditorium on the first floor features theater seating, a smart podium, and a full projection booth at the rear of the auditorium. The state of- the-art projector offers split-screen projection capabilities.

• The 25-seat and the 40- seat classrooms feature reconfigurable chairs and tables, digital projectors, whiteboards, and 2-3 LCD flat screen panels in breakout zones for small group work, and a "smart" instructor podium with controls for the technology.

• Two classrooms feature distance learning capabilities. The 40-seat classroom in Basement Level 1 and the 150-seat auditorium on the main floor are equipped with three cameras each. In addition, the ATLAS Board room and a separate smaller room on the second floor feature videoconferencing capabilities.

• Three carts of 15-25 laptops each are available for checkout to allow for individual or small group computer work at a 1:1 ratio for the smaller classrooms, and a 1:2 or 1:3 ratio for the larger. Laptops are equipped with software for word processing, collaborative learning, graphic image manipulation (Photoshop) and Web site design (Dreamweaver).

• The building also includes eleven flexibly-scheduled student design and student project spaces, a student lounge on the second fl oor, and shared computer editing and graphics facilities. Students and faculty also can interact in Kay's Cafe, located adjacent to the lobby.
