New Exam Structure

The examinations of the Society of Actuaries, Casualty Actuarial Society, and Canadian Institute of Actuaries are currently being restructured. Part of the new structure requires students to take certain college courses, which will earn them Validation by Educational Experience (VEE) Credit. The Societies have approved certain courses within our course sequences to count for VEE credit in Economics, Corporate Finance, and Applied Statistical Methods.

Below are the courses we recommend as preparation for which exam and which courses have been approved for VEE credit. A grade of B- or better is required to obtain VEE credit.

VEE Credit
Required Course:
VEE in Applied Statistics
Mathematical Statistics (MATH/APPM 4520 or ECON 6818) and Time Series (MATH/APPM 4540). [Although they are not required for the program, taking ECON 3818 and 4818 together also meets the requirement.]
VEE in Economics
Intermediate Microeconomics (ECON 3070) and Intermediate Macroeconomics (ECON 3080).
VEE in Corporate Finance
Accounting and Financial Analysis (BCOR 2200) and Corporate Finance (FNCE 3010)

SOA Exam
Recommended Courses
SOA Exam P Probability (MATH 4510 or APPM 3570) and Mathematical Statistics (MATH/APPM 4520) are recommended.
SOA Exam MF
TBD
SOA Exam M Markov Processes, Queues, and Monte Carlo Simulations (APPM 4560) is recommended. Stochastic Processes (MATH 6550) would also be good preparation.
