Senior Environmental Sociology Faculty Position

The Sociology Department and the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Institute (RASEI) invite applications for an established scholar for a full-time faculty position as Associate or Full Professor beginning August 2013. RASEI is a joint institute between the University of Colorado and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
Candidates with interests in collaborative research projects aimed at confronting scientific, technology and institutional barriers to deployment of scalable and sustainable energy systems are of special interest for this position.
Relevant areas of research and teaching include (but are not limited to):
- Socio-economic analyses of costs/benefits of clean energy;
- Socio-behavioral issues, including consumer energy behavior and relevant policies/programs (e.g. SmartGrid);
- Social movement activity regarding energy development;
- Demographic and organizational determinants of greenhouse gas emissions;
- Environmental justice implications of energy development;
- The implications of metrics in technology and siting decisions;
- International and comparative energy-related research.
This position is part of a University-wide, multi-disciplinary hiring program that will add 24 or more new faculty members with energy-related research and teaching interests to campus over the next five years.
The successful candidate will be appointed with tenure in Sociology, appointed as an Affiliate or Fellow of RASEI, and have the possibility of a joint appointment at NREL.
Successful candidates must have a PhD in sociology and several years of experience teaching and performing research on the social dimensions of energy.
