Academic & Curricular Affairs, Assistant Dean of Academic & Curricular Affairs

Responsibilities:

  • Curricular Issues
    • Reviews all new course or curriculum proposals in the College as well as all proposals for course or curriculum revisions
    • Reviews and has approval authority for all changes to the schedule of courses offered each term by the college
    • Serves on the College of Arts and Sciences Curriculum Committee, in an ex officio capacity, and works with the Academic and Curricular Affairs Coordinator to set the agenda for the committee’s bi-weekly meetings
    • Serves as a resource for administrators, departments, and faculty in the College who have questions about the curricular rules and polices of the college
    • Works with the divisional associates deans to oversee enrollments in fall and spring classes within the college
  • Summer Session
    • Serves as the College of Arts and Sciences Summer Session Dean:
      • Oversees the College of Arts and Sciences Summer Session budget
      • Reviews and approves all summer faculty appointments
      • Reviews College of Arts and Sciences proposals for special Summer Session programs (FIRST, Online Course development, etc.)
      • Oversees enrollments in summer classes within the college
      • Works with the Summer Session deans from other colleges on campus-wide issues that pertain to Summer Session
  • Transfer Credit
    • Supervises CAS’s five-person Transfer Credit Unit
    • Oversees statewide transfer articulation agreements and works with other universities and colleges in the state, particularly the community colleges to make sure this are operating as they should
    • Sits on campus-wide Study Abroad Committee, which reviews all new study abroad programs or courses
  • Graduation and Degree Audit
    • Supervises the College of Arts and Sciences Degree Audit Coordinator and Graduation Coordinator
      • Signs off on retro graduations, certificates of completion and off letters
  • Campus Liaison to Colorado Department of Higher Education
    • Serves on the statewide General Education Council, which is convened by the Colorado Department of Higher Education
    • Works with representatives from the CU System, CU-Denver, and CU Colorado Springs on issues connected to General Education Council and the Colorado Department of Higher Education
  • Oversight of Grade Changes
    • Reviews and has approval authority for grade changes (both online and via paper Change of Record forms) for students within the college
    • Reviews and has approval authority for retroactive add petitions submitted by students within the college
    • Reviews and has approval authority for Special Action Forms
