M.A. Application Information
Application Deadline: January 15 (domestic), December 1 (international) for the following Fall semester.
Application materials received after this deadline and incomplete applications will not be reviewed. Notifications regarding admission decisions will be sent to students by email or regular mail by April 15. The department cannot respond to phone requests regarding admission decisions before this date. When the initial application and application fee are received, a file will be activated. As additional materials come in, they will be added to the file until it is complete.
Acknowledgement of receipt of application materials will be sent by email or regular mail after the application deadline. Applicants may contact our Graduate Program Coordinator at 303-492-2419 before the application deadline in order to check on the status of their application.
Prerequisites
The following are required for admission to the graduate program:
-- A baccalaureate degree from an approved college with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.00.
-- A score of 500 or higher on the verbal section of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
-- A broad general background in history, literature, and philosophy.
-- An extensive background in art history.

In your application, you will need to indicate Art History as the area of your interest and the semester in which your graduate studies are to be initiated. Admission, if granted, will be valid only for that particular semester. Please follow all other guidelines and call our Graduate Program Coordinator if necessary: 303-492-2419.

Applicants to the master's program in art history are asked to write a 750 to 1,000 word essay in Part II, number 6 on the application form, addressing their experience in art history and objectives. The essay may be attached electronically to the online application or sent separately to the address below.
Applicants may also submit a sample paper written for an art history class (not required).
Transcripts
Two official transcripts must be sent directly from each institution attended by the applicant to the address below. Transcripts that are “issued to student” are not acceptable.
Letters of Recommendation
Three letters of recommendation are required. Each letter should be attached to the Recommendation Form and submitted either online (please follow the ApplyYourself instructions) or sent by the recommenders to the address below. A hard copy of the Recommendation Form is available here in the .pdf format. The top portion of the form must be filled out by the applicant and the bottom portion, by the recommender.
Fee
A $50.00 non-refundable application fee ($70 for international applicants) must accompany each application for graduate degree programs. It must be paid either online with a credit card or with a check or money order, drawn on a U.S. bank, payable to University of Colorado.
