Marsha Burch, Office Manager for the Department of Astrophysics and Planetary Sciences
Office Manager

I graduated from the University of Colorado with a double-major in Journalism and History.  My love of writing led me to jobs at several small newspapers but my career and life made a drastic turn into the computer world and raising three children (all now CU graduates).   I have owned several Boulder businesses--a computer retail store which also offered computer training.  When I sold that business, I took a job at Sun Microsystems as a manager of several groups.  My last five years at Sun was as a global program manager, which allowed me the opportunity to work with many countries and cultures.  My travels took me often to London, Munich, France, Prague and Singapore.  For the last few years at Sun, I worked most weeks in California only coming home on weekends.  Looking to plant my feet again solidly in Boulder, I opened a wine and paint business on Pearl Street.  I was able to sell this business after three years to a wonderful artist who is still running it on Broadway.  Check out POSH by going to poshsplat.com.  If you love wine and fun…this would be a great place to go.  After selling POSH, I set my goals at working at CU.  I looked nowhere else when job hunting because, as a Boulder person, I knew it offered me the academic and energized atmosphere I was looking for.  I found just that in joining APS.  As Office Manager, I have found a group doing things that amaze me every day.
