Our Mission

To create and maintain a mutually proud and loyal relationship between the University of Colorado at Boulder and its gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender alumni and friends.

Our Goals

To build community among CU-Boulder gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender alumni, friends and allies; to create a recognition by the University of its many GLBT alumni and their contributions; to sponsor programs, social events, service activities, communication and personal support; to provide scholarships for CU students and to reach out to the non-GLBT community.

Our History

The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender Alumni Chapter was officially chartered on Sept. 17, 1994, by the Board of Directors of the CU-Boulder Alumni Association. Its creation was an early step taken by CU-Boulder that would lead to its becoming a respected GLBT-friendly campus. When it was chartered, CU’s GLBT Alumni Chapter was one of only a few official gay alumni groups in the nation.

Since its early start with maybe 25 members, the chapter has grown to a vital organization with more than 150 members, conspicuous service to the university and the community, popular social events and support for outstanding GLBT students.

The Chapter is led by officers who are gay Boulder campus alumni, and it is supported by a CU-Boulder Alumni Association staff member as liaison.

The GLBTA is supported by the Alumni Association, with occasional support for specific programs from outside funders, other campus programs, alumni and friends. In 2008 it was awarded a substantial grant by the Open Door Fund of the Boulder Community Foundation. In addition, it has a history of winning top awards from the Alumni Association as a “Most Outstanding Chapter,” and the cash awards accompanying those designations have contributed to its growing scholarship fund.

The beautiful timeline of GLBTQ history from the 1960s on in Boulder, Colorado and the world that we created is available for showing at your event or organization. It is available for viewing in pdf form.
